From advice to implementation

SURFOX is the effective combination of an oxidative biocide, KLK Kolb dispersant Natudisp, and KLK Kolb deposit sensor BDC:
- The cleaning properties of the dispersant reduce deposits and delay the build-up of biofilm.

Foam and air control
Along with microbiological control and the targeted use of cleaning and conditioning agents, the control of foam and air production is essential for optimal process control. We know from experience that the paper suspension has a tendency to take up air. This causes "pinholes" and can interfere with dewatering. Our deaerators tackle these problems effectively.
The closing of water circuits and the use of increasing amounts of chemicals lead to increased formation of surface foam. This can contaminate machine parts or vats and compromise process hygiene. Our experience in hygiene and the control of deposits and foam can help to keep your process optimised.

Our applications include the preservation of starches, fillers, coating colours, retention agents, pulp and mill broke.
Moreover, odour often presents a problem in the manufacture of paper. This can occur at the machine, in the finished product or the factory environment. We offer innovative solutions to combat both the microbiological causes and the unpleasant odour itself.
Our Microcid™ preservatives are effective across a broad pH range of pH 3 to 10 against bacteria, fungi and their spores and yeast to prevent odours occurring, changes in pH and viscosity and the greying of pigments.

Stock and additive preparation
In order to maintain the ongoing, uniform quality of a finished product, supplies of fibres, fillers and chemical additives must be of a of a consistent quality. We will be pleased to support you with our experience and innovative products in the following areas, amongst others:
Foam and air control is needed in very different places, e.g. in the preparation and application of surface starch in a size press, the formulation and application of coating colours, deaerators during chemical pulp washing and in the defoaming of deinking rejects for better pumpability.
Preservation of starch, fillers, coating colours and retention agents is essential if any undesired deterioration in quality is to be avoided.
Deinking: whether you need whiteness for newsprint or low-ash content for tissue products, our surfactants, soaps and fatty acids guarantee the excellent removal of printing inks and stable foam for any subsequent flotation.

Machine clothing optimisation: consistent performance is another important factor in a high quality production process when it comes to machine clothing. In order to keep everything running smoothly, we can develop an individual treatment plan for you taking the whole process into consideration, from the wire and press right through to the dry end with conditioning, continuous cleaning or shut down cleaning, depending on your requirements.
Foam and air control: it is known that stock suspensions and white water have a tendency to trap air. Some of the negative consequences include foam formation and the associated deterioration in operating hygiene, pinholes in the paper and inadequate dewatering. Our defoamers and deaerators tackle these problems effectively.
Process water treatment and effluent plant
Water is increasingly becoming a limited resource. Constant efforts are therefore being made by paper and board producers to reduce the need for fresh water even further. The water from all stages of production is passed through a series of filtering and purifying steps and then fed back into the process again whenever possible (and depending on specifications).
However, deposits and microbial contamination of the various forms of process water often causes problems. You can also rely on our extensive experience in this area. We can support you with our expertise in the deposit control of process waters.
In order to keep the process clean, it is essential for the incoming fresh water to undergo microbiological treatment. Any microbes present at this stage act as a perfect trigger for contamination or slime formation in later stages of the process, e.g. in spray bars or in additive preparation as a result of any dilution with contaminated water.
This applies to any points in the process at which fresh water can be replaced either with clear or super-clear filtrate or with recycled water from an integrated purification plant. Microbiological control improves the hygiene of the paper machine but it is also important in the treatment of cooling water, for example. Microbial growth here can result in slime formation, calcium deposits and corrosion which, in turn, lead to poor heat transfer and increased maintenance costs. Ongoing treatment against calcium deposits is also needed in sealing water for vacuum pumps, for example, to ensure that they can operate at maximum efficiency.
Foam in an aeration tank leads to less air for microorganisms and lower efficiency as a result. On the other hand, too much air in the settling tank leads to flotation and the risk of foam reaching the receiving water course. Our defoaming and deaerating agents can combat this. Odour formation during fibre recovery, in white water or sludge treatment is also unwelcome. Our biocides offer a remedy for this.
