Head of Legal KLK OLEO Europe

Head of Legal KLK OLEO Europe

In this new role you will be responsible for strengthening and further developing the Legal function within our European organization.

Key responsibilities

  • Key contact in KLK OLEO Europe for commercial, purchasing and other contracts in Europe
  • Main contact partner to external lawyers consulting KLK OLEO in Europe
  • Provide effective, strong and well researched legal advice to the management, sales or other business departments in a timely and efficient manner on issues throughout the European region
  • Legal advice to the businesses concerning claims and litigation matters of the KLK OLEO Group’s subsidiaries in the main European concerned jurisdictions, but also abroad
  • Close collaboration with Legal team colleagues in the European region, but also in Malaysia, where the Headquarter of the KLK OLEO Group is located
  • Evaluation of new business partnerships with vendors and subcontractors
  • Design and oversee the company’s policy and position on legal matters
  • Protect the company against legal risks and violations
  • Examination of legal issues related to new products and services
  • Negotiate deals on behalf of the individual group companies
  • Main legal contact partner for acquisition and divestiture projects in Europe
  • Guide management on regulatory and compliance issues to ensure compliance with legal regulations
  • Support Group companies in insurance matters, tenders, claims and advise them on risk minimization and risk management
  • Interface to the respective Compliance Officer in Europe and support them for overseeing compliance, ensuring compliance with laws, regulatory requirements, policies and procedures
  • Developing and delivering training on different law issues to the other European entities
  • Managing disputes and litigations and supporting claims in the concerned jurisdictions, and supervising the external counsels
  • Provide legal advice to specific projects including financing, acquisitions as well as a set of plants and their engineering
  • Continuous controlling of costs for external counsels and constant improvement of the quality of the legal advice rendered by the European legal team
  • Managing existing legal contracts throughout the organization with the department managers

 Desired skills and experience

  • Law degree from an accredited European university with a good academic record
  • 10+ years of professional work experience with practical experience as an in-house lawyer or in a law firm and complementary in an international chemical environment
  • Excellent verbal and written English is an absolute must. German, French and other European language skills are most welcome
  • Profound experience with litigation, intellectual property, data protection, commercial and contract law
  • Experience in compliance regulations with laws, requirements, policies and procedures with a major focus on Europe
  • Experience in working multijurisdictional and cross-border in an international environment with the main focus on Europe and, advantageously, Asia
  • Experience managing projects within a global legal team and cross-functionally with proven ability to bring projects to closure
  • Experience from the property insurance sector
  • Strong communication skills to interact with commercial and operational teams of all levels
  • Agility, willingness and enthusiasm to learn other practice areas, to become familiar with laws of other jurisdictions and to support the local KLK OLEO Europe legal department
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness and flexibility for occasionally travelling around the European sites when required
